About Captain Bakery

Bubble tea, tea houses, Asian bakeries and dessert shops in this group are usually walk-in, counter-order businesses with a menu board overhead listing sweetness and ice levels you can adjust when ordering. Standard bubble tea customization includes sugar level (0-100%), ice level, and a choice of toppings like boba pearls, pudding or jelly, usually at a small extra charge. Asian bakeries sell items individually with tongs and a tray, cafeteria-style, rather than pre-boxed, and pastries are typically less sweet than Western bakery items. Lines build up quickly after school and in the evening, especially near colleges. Most of these businesses accept cards and mobile pay and skew younger in clientele and atmosphere.

Chicago is in Illinois, in the Midwest, where summers are warm, winters are cold and snowy, and most errands are done by car; businesses keep steady year-round hours with the usual holiday changes. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Chicago follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Hidden gems in Chicago always end up being the places that leave the biggest impression, and for me that place is Capital Bakery. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels warm, welcoming, and comforting. The smell of fresh baked bread and pastries instantly makes you feel at home. It’s one of those places that feels special the second you step through the door. The baked goods here are absolutely amazing. Everything tastes fresh, soft, flavorful, and made with real care. Their Capital Bakery bread is honestly one of my favorite things they’re fresh, delicious, and perfect every single time. You can tell they put effort and love into what they make instead of just rushing things out like many places do nowadays. What also makes this bakery stand out is the people. The worker there was incredibly sweet, kind, and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Good customer service can completely change how a place feels, and she truly made us feel appreciated and comfortable. I also love the overall look and feel of the bakery. It has such a cozy and relaxing vibe that makes you want to stay longer and keep coming back. Places like this are hard to find now. If you’re eve

Really affordable Chinese bakery if you want to avoid the rush of Chinatown (but still better than like, the bakery inside of Park to Shop etc). Very affordable too, esp if you bring cash to avoid the credit card fee. The curry bun, hot dog bun, coconut custard bun, egg tarts, sugar top buns like matcha crack top, are our standard orders. They make a good customizable iced coffee (e.g., can get it with no sweetener) too. We have never had anything that isn’t fresh.

We drove to this bakery from the north side in search of mooncakes, and found so much more. We tried the mango pudding, Macau egg tart, sponge cake, and the mooncakes, and everything was fresh and absolutely delicious. If it wasn’t 15 miles away I’d be here every week! The woman serving us was friendly and helpful in answering questions, and the atmosphere was clean and bright with big windows and display cases. They do take credit cards in addition to cash, but there’s an additional fee, so save your pennies and just buy with cash. The prices are very reasonable. Wonderful spot!

A hidden gem of a chinese bakery in Bridgeport/McKinley area. They have a great variety of Cantonese buns and other pastries. The food reminds me of how real old school Cantonese buns should taste. Better than the big bakeries in Chinatown. These are fresh and taste like they are made with quality ingredients. The prices are reasonable and cheap compared to the big names in Chinatown. Highly recommend you give them a try. Seating is limited to 4 window counters. Cash is preferred but credit cards requires 4% transaction fee.
